Customer Feedback

From start to finish, the service provided by Fawns was excellent and, in view of the success of this project, we are currently raising money for a second phase so that more children can benefit. We recommend the company wholeheartedly.

BACKGROUND

Whalley CofE Primary School is located in the picturesque civil parish town of Clitheroe, Lancashire. Named the best place to live in Northern England by The Sunday Times in 2017.

Guided by the ethos of helping every child on their journey “On the way…,” the school promotes a values-based approach known as The Whalley Way. This is built around four core principles:

  1. Do your best
  2. Respect others
  3. Make good choices
  4. Be thankful

Whalley Primary fosters a nurturing, family-oriented environment where every child is supported to thrive both academically and personally.

PROJECT BRIEF

The school had identified that the older children of the school had a fun and engaging play space, but the Key Stage 1 area had little to engage the children. The limited equipment in this space was outdated and in need of refresh.

The main aim for the new Key Stage 1 playground was to encourage creative play, develop gross motor skills and encourage communication and language skills. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Friends of Whalley School, the necessary funding for the project was successfully secured.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

Following a recommendation from the Friends Committee, Fawns’ local Outdoor Play Consultant arranged a consultation with the headteacher, and the Chair of the PTA. They were seeking inspiration and expert input to help envision how to best develop the designated area.

Discussions focused on how to maximise the potential of the space, considering the age group, play value, and promotion of gross motor skills. The consultant offered creative ideas and practical suggestions tailored to the school’s setting.

Based on this, a bespoke design and detailed quotation created and presented to the school. After reviewing the proposal and making a few minor amendments, a final design was agreed upon, marking the next step towards creating a dynamic and engaging outdoor play environment for the KS1 children.
