BACKGROUND

St Bartholomew’s Primary Academy is located in the market town of Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire. The town was granted its royal patronage in March 2011 by Queen Elizabeth II.

The school have the highest expectations of all associated with the school and have a St Bart’s Way Motto: Be Honest, Aim High, Respect Our Environment, Treat Everyone Well and Show our Values.

PROJECT BRIEF

To commemorate the 50^th anniversary of St. Bartholomew’s Primary opening their existing site, the school wanted to mark the occasion by completely renovating the KS1 playground.

The school had identified that the space needed updating. They wanted a range of equipment that would cater for the diverse needs of their children.

The school had raised their funds through donations, PTA fundraising efforts as well as using existing school funds.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

Our local Outdoor Consultant, who has worked with many schools within the Diocese of Salisbury Academy Trust, carried out a consultation with the School Business Manager and discussed the possibilities for the Key Stage 1 playground transformation.

The main requirements for the new area were to incorporate varied physical challenges, seating, and a role-play element. With the aim to engage children in social interaction, imaginative play, as well as promoting physical development.

Through careful consideration of the school’s specific needs, the Fawns Consultant collaborated with the school to develop a comprehensive design and quotation that addressed their specifications. This partnership ensured a shared understanding and resulted in an agreed-upon plan, allowing the exciting work on the new play area to commence.
