Customer Feedback

The installation has greatly enhanced the school’s outdoor space. Children of all ages from Reception to Year 6 actively want to go on the pirate ship as often as they can so much so we have to have a rota at play and lunchtime. The equipment is a good selling point for our school and complements other outdoor equipment we have as it provides different learning opportunities. Fawns were extremely easy to deal with and had great communication.

BACKGROUND

Stone Cross School, located in East Sussex, offers high-quality learning experiences that empower every child to succeed and achieve their full potential. The school is committed to creating an environment where all children feel valued and supported. They are encouraged to develop independence, confidence, and a strong sense of self-worth.

PROJECT BRIEF

The school identified that the existing outdoor trim trail had become outdated and required renewal.

Recognising the importance of quality outdoor spaces, the school set out to expand and improve the facilities available to all pupils, particularly during break and lunch times. Section 106 funding offered an opportunity to refresh these areas and enhance the outdoor experience for every child.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

Fawns’ local outdoor play consultant met with Mrs Clements, the headteacher, to explore the school’s vision and aspirations for the new play area. The school had identified a need to remove the existing trail and replace it with modern, engaging equipment.

Following initial discussions, a proposed design and quote were presented for the school’s review. After feedback and adjustments, a final design was agreed upon.

The completed design, featuring a Pinta Ship and Cayman, reflected both the school’s objectives and input gathered from the School Council, ensuring the pupil voice was considered. The design struck a balance between promoting children’s physical development and encouraging creativity and collaborative play.
