BACKGROUND

Goddard Park Community Primary School is a vibrant school in Swindon, Wiltshire, committed to inspiring lifelong learning for everyone. The school brings together pupils, staff, parents, and governors in a shared effort to achieve their full potential. Guided by its core values of Kindness, Respect, Perseverance, and Courage, the whole school community works collaboratively. Creating a positive, supportive, and aspirational learning environment.

PROJECT BRIEF

The school identified the need to replace its existing Adventure Zone, as the wetpour surfacing had deteriorated and was no longer safe for use. In addition, the area required modernisation to better meet the needs of children. Providing a more engaging outdoor play environment.

The school aimed to create a play space that would encourage children to be physically active while developing coordination, balance, and motor skills.

A key objective was to provide an exciting and inclusive environment that would enhance children’s confidence, resilience, and problem-solving abilities. As well as offering a safe and enjoyable space for outdoor learning and play throughout the year.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

Once the funding had been secured, the school was ready to begin planning its new Adventure Zone. Fawns’ design consultant met with the Deputy Head and Site Manager to assess the existing space and discuss how the area could be transformed to support pupils’ physical development, social interaction, and outdoor play experiences.

Following the consultation, Fawns worked closely with the school to develop a bespoke design proposal and quotation that reflected its objectives and intended learning outcomes. The design addressed the immediate needs of the pupils and allowed flexibility for any future additional equipment as requirements evolve.

After reviewing the proposal and making a few minor adjustments, the school approved the final design. Fawns were selected to deliver the project due to competitive pricing, collaborative approach, and ability to create an Adventure Zone that closely matched the school’s vision and requirements.
