The Quiet Season Checklist: Is Your Site Ready to Win Bookings?

In this blog, we share the 2026 preparation checklist you’ll need to secure bookings to your site now.

Now’s the time when families are squinting into the summer and planning where to spend their hard-earned money on a holiday that offers something for every family member.

Your 2026 (and 2027) customers are scanning your website and scrolling through your social media to see if your holiday or caravan park will be a good fit for their summer family holiday.

The big question is whether your site is ready to grab those bookings. To help you prioritise, we’ve put together a checklist of things you can do during these preparation months to make sure you’re the number one choice for family holidays.

We’ve split the checklist into four main areas:

  •  Digital shop window
  • Play area
  • Practical site essentials
  • Local area extras

1. The digital shop window

Your first step is to look at what potential guests are seeing online: your digital presence (or shop window). If your social media feed has gone silent since October, it’s time to wake it up. Or, if you don’t have a regular presence on social media, this is a good place to start.

Wake up your social feed

Go through your camera roll from July and August. Find those photos of blue skies, happy families, and exciting play equipment. Post them on your social platforms to remind families what’s waiting for them in the summer.

Build trust with faces and reviews

It’s also a great time to share a screenshot of a glowing review from last season. Social proof is a big driver for first-time site visitors. The power of word of mouth can’t be underestimated.

If you don’t have a long list of reviews to choose from, don’t worry. One or two reviews can be repurposed in lots of different ways. Prioritising collecting reviews this summer season will help you with the marketing cycle for next year.

Check if you have a ‘Meet the Team’ section on your website. People like to buy from people. Seeing a friendly face, whether it’s the park manager, cleaning team or the reception team, builds trust before they even arrive.

Answer family ‘worry’ questions

Check your website for the practical stuff too. Does it answer the questions first-time holiday site parents might have?

They’ll want to know about safety, to see the showers, and to know what’s been refurbished (or is planned to be updated). If you’re planning facilities upgrades, shout about them now.

A summary: Your digital checklist:

  • Post your favourite photos of your site in the sunshine
  • Share screenshots of your best 5-star reviews
  • Add photos of your staff to the website to build trust
  • Update your FAQ section to cover safety and refurbishments

2. The main attraction: Your playground

This is the big one. When families choose UK holiday parks over flying abroad, it often comes down to freedom. They want the flexibility to pack the car with everything they need without worrying about luggage allowance. But more importantly, they want a commercial play area where the children can be children.

The ‘parent break’ factor

Your commercial play area is usually the deciding factor for parents who want a holiday that will give every member of the family the type of activity they’re looking for.

It sounds counterintuitive, but a great holiday park play space isn’t just for the children. It’s for the parents who want to sit nearby with a coffee and maybe even a book, knowing their kids are safe, secure, and entertained.

Does your equipment look tired?

Take a walk around your current holiday park play area.

  • Does your commercial play area equipment look tired?
  • Is it underpinned by inclusive design?
  • Can children of all ages enjoy it?
  • Is the surfacing looking a bit worn?

These details matter. When a parent looks at your site photos, a fresh, exciting play area signals that you care about the guest experience. It taps into that nostalgia of a ‘proper’ British holiday.

They might have made friends with the children in the next caravan, playing out until dusk, and being away from digital screens, and want to offer this type of family holiday to their own children.

You’re marketing your holiday park to the new generation of campers and caravaners, remember!

Avoid the booking risk

If your commercial play area equipment has seen better days, you risk losing that booking to a site that’s invested in modern, safe, and engaging kit. It’s the heart of the holiday for the under-12s, and if the kids are happy, the parents are booking for next year (and maybe the year after, too).

Your holiday park play area checklist:

  • Inspect paintwork and timber for signs of wear
  • Check safety surfacing is intact and level
  • Assess if there is enough seating for parents nearby
  • Consider if the equipment still appeals to modern families
  • Check if the design is inclusive by design, not just accessible

3. The practical essentials

While the play area captures the imagination, the facilities block helps to seal the deal. We know that the quality of the amenities is often the number one topic in reviews.

Toilets and showers

Start with the basics. Are there enough toilets and showers for the number of pitches you have?

Now is the time to look at your cleaning routines and see if they need tightening up for 2026.

The washing-up station

Then look at the washing-up area. It’s a specific detail, but the number of sinks and the availability of hot water can sway booking choices.

Nobody wants to spend their holiday evenings queuing to wash the dishes. Upgrading these areas or simply adding more capacity can be a huge win, even for holiday parks with static caravans, reducing the bottlenecks in small spaces.

Laundry facilities

Don’t forget the laundry facilities either. Having reliable washing machines, dryers, and even an iron available gives families that extra bit of reassurance. They might not plan to do laundry, but knowing they can when a muddy puddle is enjoyed a little too much.

Having access to, and information about, washing facilities also encourages families to stay longer, knowing they have access to a washing machine on site (and for those organised parents who want to return stress-free without a mountain of clothes to wash).

Your Facilities Checklist:

  • Review shower capacity against pitch numbers
  • Check all sinks have reliable hot water
  • Ensure laundry machines are serviced and working
  • Ensure all of the above information is on your website and social media channels

4. Be the local expert

Finally, you can add massive value to a stay at your holiday or caravan park without spending a penny on infrastructure. You just need to be the expert on your local area.

Secure local discounts

Spend a morning calling up local attractions or eateries. Can you secure a discount code for your guests? It’s a win-win. The attraction gets more footfall, and you get to offer an exclusive perk.

Build the 2026 calendar

Plan your attraction and events 2026 calendar. Make a list of every festival, market, and event happening near you. Put this on your website or blog if you have one.

Be helpful with the logistics, too. Tell them which events they can walk to and which ones need a car.

If there’s a great pub dog walk nearby, map it out for them. By doing this, you stop being just a place to sleep and become a hub for their whole holiday experience.

Your local expert checklist:

  • Contact 3 local attractions to ask for guest discounts
  • Research dates for 2026 local festivals and markets
  • Update your ‘Local Area’ web page with new events
  • Create a simple map of walkable routes from your site
