INTRODUCTION
Westende Junior School is in the market town of Wokingham in Berkshire.
The school’s vision is to inspire children through creativity, challenge, and confidence. They provide a nurturing, inspiring and inclusive learning environment to develop happy, confident children.
GOALS
The existing main play area was barked with a long trim trail down the centre, it was a space that was not being used to its full potential.
The school wanted a play space that was engaging and challenging for a range of ages and abilities, whilst also offering a space for several children to use at any one time.
The school also had 2 separate spaces that needed to be updated into outdoor learning zones; providing a quiet space for children during breaktimes and shade & shelter throughout the year.
THE DESIGN PROCESS
The local play consultant Paul met with the School Business Manager to discuss plans for all three areas and provide further ideas on how best to use the spaces. A design was created and presented to the school along with their quotation.
After some minor adjustment to the design and quotation Fawns were selected as the preferred suppliers for the project; Fawns effectively demonstrated the most engagement and challenge in the space provided whilst also offering a solution for the outdoor learning areas.

Line Markings will also be completed later in the year in the drier weather.
