K. Mackenzie, Headteacher

BACKGROUND

Teesside High School is an independent school situated in the heart of Teesside, Northeast England. The school prides itself on combining high academic standards with small class sizes, exceptional pastoral care, and a rich extra-curricular programme, all within a welcoming and supportive environment where every child is valued.

PROJECT BRIEF

The school’s existing pirate ship needed replacement. They sought new playground equipment that would be both engaging and physically stimulating for children in KS1 and KS2. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of the PTA, the school had secured the necessary funds and was ready to bring the project to life.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

To explore the best options for the space, the school invited Fawns’ Outdoor Play Consultant Greg to meet with Headteacher Mrs. Mackenzie. During this consultation, they discussed the school’s vision, the needs of the children, and practical considerations. Greg took these factors into account and developed a tailored design that maximized the space while ensuring safety, inclusivity, and fun.

A detailed design and quotation were presented to the school for their consideration. After careful review and discussion, the design was approved, giving the green light for the project to proceed.

This collaborative approach ensured that the final climbing area would meet the school’s practical requirements. Also creating an exciting, engaging environment for the children to enjoy for years to come.
