The new playground has brought our community together. It’s wonderful to see children playing safely in a space that’s truly inviting.
A. Boyce, Parish Clerk
Kintbury Parish Council represents Kintbury, a rural village nestled in West Berkshire. The village is situated between the larger towns of Newbury and Hungerford.
The village boasts excellent recreational facilities, including two main recreation grounds. One of these is the Jubilee Centre, home to the brand-new playground. Kintbury also features a beautiful wildflower meadow, providing a haven for local wildlife and a tranquil space for residents to enjoy.
The council identified that the existing play area was outdated and no longer met the needs of the wider community. Recognising the importance of accessible and engaging outdoor spaces, the decision was made to invest in a complete refresh of the playground.
The primary objective of the new playground was to provide a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment for children of all ages and abilities. As well as encouraging outdoor play, physical activity and fostering community engagement.
Funding for the project was successfully secured through a combination of grants and local donations, allowing the council to move forward with their project plans.
Fawns’ local Outdoor Play Consultant met with Angela, the Parish Clerk, to discuss and define the Parish Council’s goals for the new play area. Their discussions focused on selecting equipment that would complement the existing environment and appeal to a broad range of the local community members.
The clerk had already familiarised themselves with Fawn’s product range via the council brochure before the meeting, ensuring alignment with their vision. Fawns then provided a design and quotation that addressed the specific requirements, ensuring the equipment was suitable for a range of ages and abilities. Inclusivity was prioritised in every detail, including the surfacing, to ensure the equipment was wheelchair accessible and that all children could access the play area.
After productive conversations, a final design was approved and the council decided to go with Fawns as the proposal covered everything the Parish Council was looking for.
