The importance of delivering robust and usable play equipment that will be used by the general public in a park that is much loved is a huge challenge and commitment. The service provided has meant that the design has reached the public well. Plus, the delivery was done thoughtfully and on time ensuring that children could quickly return to a space much needed in the local community. Thank you
Cllr. Joanna Wright – Chair
Alice Park was gifted to Bath in 1938 by Herbert Montgomery MacVicar and, since 2016, has been managed by the Alice Park Trust.
Tucked at the junction of the A4 and Gloucester Road, this eight-acre park offers a children’s playground, six tennis courts, cycle paths, a wildlife area, and more. It also hosts a nursery, community garden, and the popular Alice Park Café—right next to the new park installation.
The Alice Park Play Area had reached a stage where much of the existing equipment was outdated, worn, and no longer fit for purpose. The facilities did not provide the stimulating, inclusive, and high-quality play experiences for the children and families. An upgrade was urgently required to revitalise the space. Restoring its role as a safe, welcoming, and engaging destination for play.
Thanks to funding from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and the valued support of two private trusts, the project could move forward and deliver much-needed improvements for local families and the wider community.
The council had initiated a tender process to ensure best value for money and selection of the most suitable design for the project.
The local Consultant discussed ideas and aspirations for the area with the Alice Park Committee and agreed a way forward for the Project. A design and tender were prepared and presented to the committee for review and feedback. Following this, the council awarded the contract.
Local knowledge, effective communication and targeted delivery timescales were factors affecting the choice of company chosen.
