FEEDBACK FROM THE CUSTOMER

“The process from initial consultation, through design to install is positively seamless, with expert support given along the way. The quality of construction is excellent, and the equipment is so loved already by our children and for many years of children to come, I’m sure. I’m already planning how I can bend a few other benefactor’s arms to get more Fawns equipment on site.”

T. Wheat, Headteacher

BACKGROUND

West Pennard CofE Primary School is nestled in the countryside near Glastonbury, Somerset. As a school, they pride themselves in providing a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for children aged 4 to 11.

West Pennard is more than just a place of learning; it’s a place where children thrive, grow, and develop a lifelong love of learning.

PROJECT BRIEF

Fawns had recently completed a Play Area Project at a very local school in Glastonbury, St Benedict’s Junior School. The Headteacher Mr Ranger had recommended Fawns to Mr Wheat who was also planning a school grounds project of his own.

The existing equipment in the area needed to be renewed after 20 years of service.  The headteacher knew they wanted to provide a play space that could be accessed by the whole school, providing a range of play opportunities for a range of ages.

The schools fundamental need was to maximise the space, encouraging physical activity as well as increasing social interaction during breaktimes and lunchtimes. They were looking for the best solutions on how to use the available space.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

Through the hard work of the PTA and their amazing fundraising efforts as well as generous charitable donations from local benefactors, the school had the funds in place to create their amazing play space.

The school council had drawn up proposals and chose equipment that they wanted to have in their playground. Tasked with designing a playground, the they were in charge of finding equipment that was suitable for the younger children of the school. As well as having something that would be more challenging for the older children.

The Fawns Outdoor Play Consultant met with headteacher Mr Wheat to fully understand the requirements of the pupils and stakeholders.

Two designs were created to meet the brief and subsequently the Option 1 Design was chosen. This meant that school were a step closer to creating an amazing play space that would inspire as well as boosting physical activity across the whole school.
