BACKGROUND

Urchfont CofE Primary School is located on the edge of Urchfont village in Wiltshire. Even though the current school structure was built in 1975, its educational legacy stretches back to the 1890s.

The school focuses on creating a happy, collaborative community where children develop real love of learning. Every child is valued and supported, with staff and parents partnering to provide a safe and nurturing environment.

PROJECT BRIEF

The previous playground equipment, which was significantly showing deterioration, no longer provided the stimulating environment necessary to promote active and educational play.

Urchfont Primary School recognised the need to update this equipment to ensure a safe and enjoyable play experience that supported children’s physical and social development.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

The playground project was made possible through a combination of subsidised capital funding allocated by the school, as well as generous donations from the local community, and successful fundraising. Recognising the need for expert guidance, the School Business Manager sought out experienced playground companies to assist with the project.

Our knowledgeable outdoor playground consultant listened to the requirements, offering expertise and advice and created the design. Ensuring to incorporate valuable insights and suggestions provided by the school’s children, who actively participated in the planning process.

To ensure value for money and select a reputable company, the school conducted a tender process. This process involved evaluating proposals based on competitive pricing, demonstrated experience, positive recommendations from local schools, and relevant industry accreditations. Following a comprehensive review of the submitted quotes, and after careful consideration of the tenders Fawns were selected for the project.

A final design was subsequently agreed upon and the installation could proceed.
