Bank End Primary School
The children of Bank End school had a wonderful surprise on their return to school after the summer, when not one but three areas of the school grounds had received a makeover. Fawns, working in consultation with Nicola Thorpe the Head Teacher, and Bursar Linda Higgins, put together designs to improve the outdoor play provision at the school, turning underused areas of the school into exciting play and learning zones.
We had a wonderful afternoon with members of the school council showing us around – the KS2 play area now has a football and basketball goal and a sling shot shooting post, as well as a shaded seating area. What was an overgrown garden area has now been transformed into an inspiring outdoor learning zone complete with weather station science panels and magnifying posts to investigate all sorts of mini beasts that have made the area their home. The biggest transformation is perhaps the Iris garden, named in honour of the wife of the school caretaker who sadly passed away, providing a flexible space made available to all the children at the school. The garden is has a wonderful covered story telling area along with role play hideaway and planting areas, within which the children have planted plants and herbs which will help create a sensory zone.
