St Paul’s Catholic Primary School

Stockport, Cheshire
Project Descriptions

Location: Stockport, Cheshire

Project Value: £20,000 +

Age Range: 5-11

Situated in the small town of Stockport in Cheshire, St Paul’s Catholic Primary School’s main mission statement is to “Aspire not to have more, but to be more”, inspired by St Oscar Romero. The school have created a nurturing environment, encouraging each of their pupils to be the very best they can be, each and every day.

The school wanted to update an old adventure area which had been condemned for 12 months following a playground inspection. They were looking at replacing the area with some new climbing equipment, providing a play space suitable for both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 pupils.

They wanted play equipment that would enhance children’s physical development, aiding core strength and grip & grasp as well as improving communication and language skills.

An appointment was arranged for the school with the local play consultant. The school had met with several companies, but according to the headteacher it was clear from the outset that Fawns stood head and shoulders above the rest.

During the appointment the consultant listened to the school’s concepts and discussed plans and ideas on how to create a new, fun and engaging adventure area that would benefit children’s core strength as well as physical development.

The consultant made some suggestions which enabled the school to make the most of their budget, without compromising the play space; also giving the school free reign on designing their own piece of equipment which the children had requested.

Once the design had been created, it was presented to the school, and with some minor adjustments a final proposal was agreed, and the playground installation could begin.

  • Noticeable improvement in children’s core strength as well as grip and grasp.
  • New Trim Trail encourages children’s agility, balance and co-ordination.
  • A play space that both Key Stage 1 and 2 children can enjoy all year round.
  • Communication & Language skills boosted.

“The equipment itself is of the highest quality and looks amazing.  All visitors to the school are extremely impressed.

The positive feedback from children is wonderful and most certainly a high point of their day. As well as the more obvious physical health benefits, we have noticed improvement in children’s core strength and grip, with children sitting with better posture in classrooms and improved handwriting.  The emotional and mental wellbeing benefits children gain from using this equipment, makes every penny worth it.

The communication throughout the planning stages was excellent.  This continued throughout the installation and even afterwards, with Charlie visiting regularly to ensure that everything was going to plan and that the needs of the school were being met.  I can honestly say that Charlie went above and beyond what I had expected.  The contractors were also very efficient and a pleasure to work with.

I would highly recommend Fawns and hope to use them again in the future.”
