Safer
Surfacing
|
|
Safer surfacing
is designed and tested to provide a level of impact absorbency that
should prevent
brain damage or even death in the event of a fall involving the head striking
the ground.
While
to a certain degree safer surfaces will help, they will not necessarily prevent
broken bones
or other injuries to the head or the rest of the body for that fact.

Grass Saver and
SafaGrass
Both surfaces are
open textured rubber matting which is installed on top of existing
grass/turf surfaces. Grass Saver, at 16mm thick is suitable for
low to medium height play equipment,
while SafaGrass, at 22mm thick is suitable up to at least 2.0m
fall height, depending on site conditions.
Both surfaces are also very good for helping to reduce ground erosion.

Synthetic Grass
We have a full
range of synthetic grass surfaces to provide you with
everything from a simple all weather surface, right up to
fully tested safer surfacing, both of which will give you
all year round use.

Wetpour
An in-situ laid rubber safer
surface. With thicknesses available from 20mm up to 110mm to
cater for a wide range of fall heights. Wetpour is an
attractive, virtually seamless rubber safer surface,
available in a wide range of colours. Wetpour can be laid on
to existing (sound) tarmac or concrete surfaces without the
need for additional sub-base work. In this instance, ramped
edges would be constructed. |

Loose Fill
Loose fill surfacing such
as woodchip
is initially the most cost effective safer surfacing
available. You can achieve good fall height protection but you do have to
be prepared to maintain bark pits regularly. 300mm deep bark pits are
required as a minimum for high level equipment. We normally recommend
raised pits to avoid extra expensive earthwork and they are less likely to
suffer from drainage problems.
