The Cedars Primary School, Hounslow
A MUGA Way To Create A Peaceful Playtime!
Playtime for children at The Cedars Primary School is a much quieter affair - thanks to a clever piece of equipment!
With just one big space used at playtimes, children from the Hounslow school often clashed - with some enjoying the rough and tumble of ball games while others preferred a more peaceful break time. As the Cedars is a special school for children who have social, emotional and behavioural difficulties - teachers were especially keen to make playtime a more peaceful and enjoyable time for all.
Aided with funds from local authorities the school contacted Fawns and a Play Consultant came out to discuss their requirements.
With input from the School Council - a group made up of children from the school who were keen to make their playtime better - the Fawns Play Consultant redesigned their playground to incorporate different zones. This was helped with the use of a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) which could be used exclusively for ball games - while sectioning these children off from the others. Another area was sectioned off using gazebo fencing creating a 'quiet' space for more vulnerable children.
Madeleine commented: 'Since the work has been carried out we have seen a dramatic improvement in behaviour at playtime - in fact the incident rate at lunchtime has dropped to zero.'
"We were extremely pleased with the service we received from Fawns. The Play Consultant took into consideration the needs of the children and came up with a design which has proved incredibly successful."
